The Challenge
Professional kitchens are high-pressure environments where precision, timing, and coordination are everything. Yet, many still rely on outdated methods — sticky notes, verbal handoffs, spreadsheets, and fragmented communication channels. This leads to persistent issues:
Miscommunication between front-of-house, back-of-house, prep teams, and management.
Last-minute chaos during busy services, with unclear status on mise en place, inventory, and task completion.
Inefficient workflows that result in wasted time, overstaffing, underperformance, and unnecessary stress.
Limited visibility into real-time productivity, making it difficult to optimize scheduling, track performance, or scale operations across multiple kitchens.
KitchenMonks set out to solve these systemic problems by creating the first autonomous kitchen assistant — a digital cockpit that syncs teams, tracks preparation, and optimizes overall kitchen performance. The challenge for Skyh.co was to design and build a tool that feels natural in the chaotic reality of a professional kitchen while delivering measurable operational improvements.

The Process
We followed Skyh.co’s signature high-velocity, human-centered approach, with a strong emphasis on understanding the unique culture and constraints of professional kitchens.
👨🍳 Chef-Centric Research We immersed ourselves in the environment by conducting in-depth interviews and observations with chefs, sous chefs, kitchen managers, and restaurant owners. This revealed the real pain points that generic tools often miss — the need for speed, simplicity under pressure, and respect for the craft of cooking.
📊 Live Tracking & Reporting Architecture Designed a robust system for real-time data capture and visualization. We focused on metrics that matter in a kitchen: task completion speed, workload distribution, prep status, and overall shift performance.
🛠 Simplified Staff Management Tools Built features for intelligent scheduling, performance tracking, and feedback loops. A thoughtful rating system for chef performance and task efficiency was integrated to support growth and accountability without creating resentment.
📱 Intuitive UX/UI Design Created a clean, glanceable interface optimized for mobile and tablet use in noisy, fast-paced settings. Accessibility, minimal training requirements, and multi-kitchen support were core considerations from day one.
