The Challenge
The electric vehicle (EV) market was experiencing explosive growth, with more drivers transitioning to sustainable transportation than ever before. New Motion, a leading provider of EV charging solutions with an extensive public and private network, identified a critical gap in the home charging experience.
Despite strong infrastructure, users lacked meaningful control, optimization, and insight into their charging sessions. Common pain points included:
Manual, reactive charging that ignored energy price fluctuations, leading to unnecessarily high costs.
Limited visibility into renewable energy availability, missing opportunities to charge more sustainably.

The objective was to create an intelligent home charging app that simplifies the entire process, reduces costs, empowers users with control, and actively contributes to a greener energy ecosystem, all while maintaining the reliability and ease that New Motion was known for.

The Process
We applied Skyh.co’s high-velocity, user-centered methodology, with a strong focus on the practical realities of EV ownership and energy systems.
User & Market Research Conducted in-depth interviews and journey mapping with EV drivers, fleet operators, and energy experts. This revealed key behaviors, frustrations with existing solutions, and opportunities to blend convenience with intelligence.
Wireframing & UX Design Built intuitive flows and information architecture that prioritize glanceable insights and effortless control. We focused on reducing cognitive load so users could manage charging without deep technical knowledge.
Iterative User Testing Prototyped early concepts and gathered real-user feedback through multiple testing rounds. Adjustments were made rapidly to refine automation logic, notifications, and interface clarity.
