SONY MUSIC
Client: Sony Music Project: Rapid Design Sprint – Facebook Group to Monetizable Music Content Platform
Date: April 2025 (or March 2026 per some references)
Team Lead / Author: Jasper Keuskamp (Skyh.co)
The Challenge
Sony Music maintained a highly engaged and thriving Facebook group, a vibrant community of dedicated fans who actively discussed artists, shared content, and showed strong loyalty to the brand. However, this organic community existed in isolation from any structured digital product or monetization strategy.
Key limitations included:
No dedicated platform beyond the basic Facebook interface.
Limited monetization opportunities, interactions remained largely non-commercial.
Fragmented and unstructured user experience that failed to capitalize on deeper fan engagement, exclusive content delivery, or revenue-generating features.
Time pressure: The business needed a fast proof-of-concept to validate whether a dedicated platform could transform passive group engagement into a scalable, profitable venture.
The ambitious goal was clear: Design and prototype a complete, profitable music content platform, in just one day. This wasn’t about incremental improvements; it required turning a social media group into the foundation of a structured, interactive, and revenue-capable digital product while preserving (and amplifying) the community’s energy.
In the fast-evolving music industry, where fan engagement increasingly drives revenue through direct-to-fan models, live experiences, exclusive content, and merchandising, Sony Music recognized the urgent need to innovate beyond traditional platforms.
The Solution
In an intensive one-day design sprint, Skyh.co conceptualized and prototyped a dedicated interactive music content platform that leveraged Sony’s existing community as its core strength.
The solution delivered:
Fan Engagement to Revenue Conversion, Bite-sized, interactive music experiences (exclusive previews, polls, Q&As, live sessions, collectibles) designed to drive monetization through subscriptions, pay-per-view content, virtual events, or integrated merchandising.
Seamless, Tailored User Experience, Intuitive interfaces built specifically for music lovers, with personalized feeds, easy navigation, and immersive content consumption.
Scalable Community-Centric Model, A platform that builds directly on the momentum of the existing Facebook group while providing tools for growth, moderation, analytics, and long-term community management.
The prototype emphasized speed-to-value: demonstrating immediate feasibility while laying the groundwork for a full-scale product that could evolve with artist campaigns, seasonal releases, and broader ecosystem integrations.
The Process
We applied Skyh.co’s high-velocity methodology, compressing what typically takes weeks into a single, hyper-focused day.
Design Sprint Kickoff Rapid alignment with Sony stakeholders on objectives, constraints, and success metrics. We defined the vision: transform passive scrolling into active, monetizable participation.
User Journey Mapping Deep dive into the current Facebook group experience. We identified pain points (scattered content, lack of personalization, difficult discovery of premium offerings) and opportunities (leveraging fan passion for exclusive access, community-driven content, and direct artist-fan connections).
Story Mapping & Sketching Structured the content flow and key features. We mapped user stories around discovery, engagement, monetization touchpoints, and retention. Low-fidelity sketches quickly evolved into detailed interaction flows.
Rapid Prototyping Built a functional, clickable prototype in under 24 hours. This included core screens, navigation, interactive elements, and sample monetization flows. The focus was on demonstrating core value rather than pixel-perfect polish.
Usability Testing & Validation Quick internal and target-user validation sessions to test key interactions for engagement potential and monetization viability. Immediate feedback loops allowed real-time refinements within the sprint timeframe.
Throughout the process, we maintained a relentless focus on human-centered design, ensuring the platform felt exciting and natural for music fans while aligning with Sony’s strategic business goals.
The Outcome
Working, interactive prototype delivered in one day, Demonstrating immediate feasibility and reducing risk for further investment.
Structured, engaging content experience tailored for music enthusiasts, with clear pathways for deeper interaction.
Scalable business model foundation built directly on Sony’s thriving community, opening doors to new revenue streams.
Validated concepts for fan-to-revenue conversion that could be expanded across artists and campaigns.
Momentum and confidence for Sony’s internal teams to pursue full development.
The sprint not only produced a tangible artifact but also sparked strategic conversations about the future of direct-to-fan experiences within Sony Music.
